Welcome Home!
The Rule of Threes:
What is going on?
I’m Scared!
So many new things!
So nervous I can’t eat!
Just leave me alone!
Will they be mad if…?
I kinda like these people.
This is my safe spot.
I know the routine!
I think I’ll let my guard down.
I might feel possessive.
I wonder if they’ll let me…
These are my people.
This is my house.
I love this routine.
My guard is completely down.
I can be myself here.
I never want to leave.
What Can I do to help them?
Leave them alone or at least, as best you can. Allow them to explore the inside of his new house and all of its strange smells. If your new pup is super shy, this might be easiest on leash, or even with the leash on but dragging behind. Allow them to come to you and your human family members and reward them with yummy treats when they do. Not all dogs love affection right away, but most appreciate a good treat.
Have a crate?
Let them chill inside the crate while you and your family go about your day as usual. They’ll be able to see how your family operates while feeling safe inside and not being bombarded with all the new happenings all at once.
Have other family pets around?
Have kids?
Still struggling?
